Introduction

Thank you for choosing GrooveList. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle the information you provide when using our mobile application ("App").

GrooveList is a lightweight utility designed to help vinyl record collectors catalog, search, and manage their collection. All features are built to respect your privacy, operating under a strict offline-first design model.

Data Safety & Collection

We do not collect, monitor, store, share, or transmit any of your personal information, email addresses, or vinyl collection lists.

All of your vinyl collection data (albums, folders, tracklists, and custom notes) is persisted locally on your device in a secure SQLite/Room database. We do not have a backend server, and we have no access to the files or records you add to your library.

Requested Permissions & Usage

To run optional search, scanning, and turntable tools, GrooveList requests the following system permissions:

  • Camera Access (Optional): Used solely to support barcode scanning. When you aim the camera at a vinyl sleeve barcode, the frame stream is processed locally in volatile memory to read metadata. No photos are captured, saved, or uploaded.
  • Device Motion Sensors (Gyroscope & Gravity Sensors): Used by the GrooveSpeed RPM measurement module. When you place your phone flat on a rotating record player platter, the app queries the gyroscope and gravity vector to compute rotation speed. All sensor measurements are computed in local volatile memory and are immediately discarded.
  • Network/Internet Access: Used exclusively to make direct outgoing queries from your device to third-party databases (Discogs, MusicBrainz, and Cover Art Archive) to download album details, tracklists, and cover artwork. These requests contain only search terms and release IDs and are subject to their respective privacy rules.

Third-Party API Integrations

Depending on your app settings, GrooveList interacts with the following services to fetch vinyl metadata:

  • Discogs API: Used to import collections or query release details. Your Discogs username (if provided) is stored strictly locally on your device and is never shared with us. Read the Discogs Privacy Policy for more details.
  • MusicBrainz & Cover Art Archive: Queried to automatically synchronize missing release years, genre labels, track durations, and high-resolution cover graphics. Read the MusicBrainz Privacy Policy for more details.

Analytics & Telemetry

GrooveList utilizes Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage metrics and diagnostic information (such as general interactions, button triggers, and layout load errors).

This telemetry is aggregated anonymously and is used strictly to understand app usage patterns and improve application performance. We do not transmit or store any personally identifiable information (PII), email addresses, or list entries from your vinyl collection catalog.

For details on how Google handles analytics, please consult the Google Privacy Policy.

Changes to this Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new terms directly in the app's changelog or update notes.
